Ancho Reyes - Spicy Mexican Liqueur

Anchos Reyes has arrived in Canada! We were sent a bottle of this spicy Mexican liqueur and got to try it in cocktails and also straight up as a fiery shot. Ancho Reyes is a liqeur made from spicy dried and smoked ancho chili. It contains 40% alcohol and uses a recipe from the Mexican town of Puebla, which is known for its ancho chilis. We tried it as a shot first, and we could immediately feel the heat from its spicy flavour profile. The liqueur had a pleasant and sweet chili taste, along with interesting hints of cinnamon, cocoa and herbs. I would equate it to a "Mexican Jäger" as it is sweet and herbacious and when drank as a shot goes down smooth.  Anchos Reyes Ancho Chile Liqeur is available seasonally at LCBO for $39.99.  Its unique flavour acts as a interesting addition in cocktails, as its spicy profile adds a serious kick. I have included a few cocktail recipes below that you can try at home for yourself. Personally, I really enjoyed drinking this on the rocks.
